  • BACK TO THE WILD

getting chimps to freedom and their future!

While most of the chimpanzees in LCRP's care aren't able to return to the wild, we can - with your help - give them a life in the forest, where they belong!  We've made unbelievable progress thanks to your generosity! In Phase Two, we'll increase the chimps' forest access, creating Canopy and Wetlands Habitats and Forest Corridors. We'll also launch the Conservation Center - to keep wild chimps wild!

A Canopy Habitat, where chimps like Priscilla (who
isn't ready for the forest) will spend her days
 with
other chimps!
A Wetlands Habitat, where adult chimps (who have
less need for human intervention) will enjoy lush forest and streams.

Forest Corridors - canals that encompass the Hundred Acre Wood, creating a beautiful protected area, where the chimps will spend their days together.
Veterinary Center, allowing us to provide vital medical treatment to chimpanzees and other wildlife who come to us. The Center will also build much-needed veterinary and One Health capacity in our region of West Africa.

SANCTUARY SITE

PHASE ONE: TODAY!

Picture
In December 2017, LCRP purchased a 25-year lease on 100 acres of forested land from the local community. The site is in the Marshall Wetlands, a beautiful and important estuarine habitat with vast mangrove forests.
Picture
We can now reach the site by road! Our well is drilled and construction underway on the Night Dorm, Nursery, Food Storage and Prep, Office, and Bungalow so we can be onsite full time.

phase three

The final phase of our development will include a Visitor and Education Center for local and international visitors, a Research Institute for diverse studies on the area’s unique ecosystems, and more.  Our goal is to remain a dynamic organization well into the future.
