Jack was brought to Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue in a black backpack, covered in ants and almost hairless. Now in our care, Jack's sad eyes are bright and his underweight body and hair are growing each day! The terrible skin infection he had from living in the bag with ant infestation is completely cured!
Jack loves to play and is very demanding of his caregivers, after having such a lack of love and nurturing prior to coming to LCR. His best friends Gola, Rudy, Lucy and Gloria are understanding of his sometimes aggressive behaviors but he is learning that they won't play when he isn't 'polite' and he has evolved immensely. Jack is an incredible climber and swinger and adores roughhousing with his caregivers. He also loves to be cuddled.
Estimated at approximately 1-1.5 years, Jack is much smaller than a healthy chimp at this age but will catch up quickly with proper care and nutrition. Jack goes to chimp school every day with the other orphans and is close to being integrated with the older nursery group. However, he still sleeps with his caregiver and chimp friends at night as chimps don't sleep separate from Mom until about four years of age.
Jack's gleeful expression and constant activity keep everyone busy and smiling!
Jack's favorite food is Peanuts!
